Nathaniel Herreshoff - Bristol

Nathaniel Herreshoff was born in 1848 in Bristol. His family sailed boats and from an early age he became involved in designing both boats and engines. Today, he is recognized as one of America’s greatest yacht and marine designer. His yacht designs became the driving force of the successful defense of the America's Cup for many decades. Herreshoff designed the first United States Navy torpedo boats and oversaw the production of some 18,000 designs in his lifetime. He died in 1938 at the age of 90.
